About this product
BANNER SOURCE is not a builder element but a custom source for YOOtheme Pro 4.x and 5.x on Joomla 5 and 6. A custom source is an additional data source in Dynamic Content: instead of placing a ready-made banner element, you take an element whose design you like and tell it where the content comes from. An example: you create a grid or a slideshow, connect it to the Custom Banners source and map image, heading and link to the fields of a banner. The look stays your decision in the builder, com_banners delivers the content. That is why it does not appear in the element list but in the Dynamic Content dialog, in the Tonino Gerns group.
One banner or a filtered list
The Custom Banner source returns exactly one banner, either picked manually from the banner list or selected dynamically via filters. Custom Banners returns several and has six parameters: categories as a multiple selection, banner client, pinned banners only, ordering as default or random, plus start and quantity with a default of 10. Categories and clients are available as select lists, so you never type in IDs. Pinned banners always come first, as Joomla defines it.
23 fields per banner
For image banners, image URL, width, height and alt text are available as four separate fields. If the alt text is missing, the banner name is used. Custom code banners provide the raw code and a rendered version with the placeholders already replaced. On top of that come ID, name, alias, description, language, category as a complete record, client ID, publish up and publish down, as well as the counters total impressions, impressions made and clicks. Three fields can be used as display conditions: published, pinned and is custom code banner.
Joomla still counts the clicks
The click URL field does not point to the link target but to the click task of com_banners. A click therefore takes the same route as with the Joomla banner module: Joomla increments the click counter, writes an entry to the banner tracking when click tracking is enabled and redirects to the stored target URL. The source does not increment impressions itself, that remains the job of the banner module. Data is read through the same Joomla model the banner module uses, and it leaves out unpublished, expired and exhausted banners on its own.
No copy, no second table
The plugin creates no database table of its own and does not duplicate any banner data. You keep managing banners in com_banners, the plugin reads directly from there, and a change is visible on the page right away. It adds neither CSS nor JavaScript to the frontend and does not call any external services. It activates itself after installation. It requires PHP 8.2 or newer.

Which versions does the plugin work with?
With YOOtheme Pro 5 on Joomla 5 and 6. There is no WordPress version, because the plugin reads Joomla's own banner component.
Does Joomla keep counting the clicks?
Yes. The click URL runs through com_banners, just like with the banner module. The source does not increment impressions itself.
Are expired banners hidden?
Yes. Data is read through Joomla's own banner model, which leaves out unpublished, expired and exhausted banners.
