About this product
DROPDOWN MENU is a builder element for YOOtheme Pro 4 and 5 on Joomla 5 and 6. You drag it into a row, select one of your existing Joomla menus and get a button that opens it as a dropdown. No detour through a module position, your Joomla menu stays the single source. The builder offers 27 settings plus a field for custom CSS. It ships no CSS or JavaScript file of its own, it uses the UIkit 3 that comes with YOOtheme Pro.
Menu source, levels and access rights
You select the menu from a list of all Joomla menus on your site. The items are loaded through the mod_menu helper, just like a regular menu module: access levels still apply, items with "Display in Menu" switched off stay out along with their children, links come as SEF URLs from Joomla's router, alias items point to their target, and multilingual sites get the matching language version. By default the output follows the current menu item, alternatively you pin it to the same branch with a base item. Start and end level range from 1 to 10, and one option shows every submenu instead of only the active branch.
Configure the button and dropdown
The button shows text, an icon or both. For the icon you pick an entry from the UIkit icon library or your own SVG file, sized between 10 and 100 pixels, placed left or right of the text. You can choose from eight button styles (Default, Primary, Secondary, Danger, Text and three link variants), three sizes, full width and three alignments. The button text can be bound to Dynamic Content. You place the dropdown in 14 positions relative to the button, it opens on click or hover, the offset is freely adjustable in pixels, and six animations are available.
The menu inside the dropdown
Inside there are four menu types: Default, Nav, Subnav and Iconnav. Dividers can be switched on, plus three nav styles and four size levels for Primary. Rendering runs through the YOOtheme Pro menu templates, so the dropdown takes typography and colors from your style. Menu items can carry images or icons: image and CSS class come from the Joomla menu item options, icons and subtitles from the menu editor in the YOOtheme customizer. Width and height are set centrally, and SVG files can be embedded inline.
Usable with keyboard and screen reader
Navigation is one of the first things an audit under the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) and EN 301 549 looks at. In these areas the element is built to WCAG 2.1 AA: the trigger is a real button element, sits in the tab order, responds to Enter and Space and carries aria-haspopup as well as an aria-expanded that UIkit 3 toggles on open and close. Escape closes it again, and even in hover mode it opens as soon as the button receives keyboard focus. The entries appear as a regular list of links, the way a screen reader expects.
